About Me

I’m Lydia Reaves-Bey, an Instructional Designer and creative problem-solver with a background in music, entrepreneurship, and education. For over a decade, I’ve combined teaching, business ownership, and creative design to help people learn in ways that stick.

My Journey

🎶 Music & Education: With a degree in Music Media and 25+ years as a trumpet player, I began my career teaching orchestra. This taught me how powerful storytelling and creativity can be in keeping learners engaged.

🧵 Entrepreneurship: I built my handmade business, Lydia’s Lovely Loops, from the ground up. Designing patterns, managing operations, and coaching entrepreneurs gave me the ability to turn complex processes into simple, repeatable systems.

🎓 Instructional Design: Today, I bring those experiences together to create learning solutions that are clear, creative, and impactful. My work blends storytelling, audio design, digital experiences, and AI-powered tools to make learning engaging and accessible.

How I Work

I approach every project with curiosity, strategy, and creativity. My process includes:

  1. Discover & Define — understanding learners, goals, and context.

  2. Design With Story & Strategy — building objectives, storyboards, and engaging pathways.

  3. Develop & Test — creating prototypes, integrating media, and gathering feedback.

  4. Deliver & Evaluate — launching, measuring outcomes, and refining for impact.

Along the way, I use AI tools to speed up prototyping, enhance storytelling, and explore new creative possibilities.

My Design Philosophy

No matter the project, my work is guided by a set of values that keep learning purposeful, creative, and impactful.

  • Clarity: Learning should be simple and accessible so every learner feels confident, not overwhelmed.

  • Creativity: Storytelling, audio design, and thoughtful visuals make training memorable.

  • Accessibility: I design with inclusivity in mind, ensuring solutions work for all learners.

  • Impact: Training should lead to measurable results—whether skill growth, confidence, or workplace change.

  • Innovation: I embrace AI tools to enhance creativity, streamline workflows, and deliver results efficiently.

Outside of work

I'm a mom of four, wife, lifelong musician, and someone who thrives on creativity in everyday life. Whether I'm cooking from scratch, experimenting with new recipes, or crafting something by hand, I find joy in creating. Music continues to be an important part of who I am, especially my 25+ years of performing trumpet, which still inspires the rhythm and flow I bring to design.

I also enjoy crochet and knitting, where I've built a small handmade business that celebrates artistry and community. These creative outlets give me space to recharge while constantly reminding me of the value of patience, detail, and care that I bring into every learning experience I design.
